First of all, it boastsa strong handcraft industry. This industryproduces handcraft gifts and educationtoys, a full range of all-sized gadgets forhouseholds and for children. A street blockin Linchuan looks like a fairyland: factoryworkshops and 28 houses are decoratedin bright colors. There is even a large-sizetrain model.
The handcraft industry in Linchuan startedat Xitan Village. In the 1980s, a factoryin the village received an order, placed bya foreign trade company, to make a productthat looked like red pepper. It was the firstorder Xitan ever got for overseas market.Many villagers who had worked in the factorysoon set up their own factories to caterto overseas buyers. As China opened to theoutside world and more orders came fromoverseas, the handcrafts industry thrived,turning Xitan into a booming town.
Innovation has been the engine thatdrives the prosperity of the industry in Linchuan.Dengfeng Handcrafts, a big player inthe handcraft industry of Linchuan, exportsproducts to over ten countries such as the United States and Japan. There is a business incubatorwhere entrepreneurs can run their startups.Tourists, on the other hand, can put theirhands on some DIY things.
